Contains New Zealand coastal sea bed depth information from NIWA.

The NIWA Expansion Pack provides the ocean floor depth contours (bathymetry) around New Zealand.  The seabed contours are owned and maintained by the New Zealand Crown Research Institute NIWA (National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research Ltd). The data has been generated by digitising hard copy maps and more recently using sounding technologies.

Using the Info tool, you can see exactly what the depth is at any point, or if you prefer a more visual effect, you can use the symbology editor to set the colour of the coutour based on its depth.

Some of the data is limited in resolution and does have errors (particularly where it has been sourced from older paper maps), and as such, we are required to advise you that this is not suitable for navigational purposes.
