Server Installation

If an organisation has licensed more than one copy of QuickMap, then it is possible to configure QuickMap to run all copies off one central server. The Server can be any PC on your network that other PCs (Clients) can connect to. It is possible to configure QuickMap on each Client PC so that the data (maps) is accessed from the server. There are a number of advantages in this type of configuration:

Data can be maintained centrally. If the organisation has subscribed to QuickMap Enterprise, then data updates need only be loaded on the server, and all client PCs will automatically receive the update.
Reduced disk space requirements. Only one copy of the data is needed on the server. It is not necessary to copy the data to each individual PC running QuickMap.
The QuickMap CD-ROM is not required for the client installs.

Install QuickMap on the Server, as per the Standalone install instructions

CLIENT INSTALL

To install PCs so that they use the data (map) stored on the server rather than copy them to those PCs, perform the following steps:

Map the server network drive containing QuickMap from the client PC that you want to install e.g. \\MyServer\\QmapShare
Run Setup.exe from the Qmap folder on the server and choose the MINIMAL install option when prompted. This will install around 20Mb of software on the PC, and the data will remain on the server.
NOTE: Setup is run off the server, NOT off the CD-ROM.

Run QuickMap on the PC and if QuickMap asks you to register, then use the QuickMap registration key provided to register the software. Each client must register

Registration can also be accessed from the Help Menu within QuickMap.

·

When you start QuickMap a dialog box may appear saying newer software has been found and gives you the option to update to the newer version.  You should normally answer “Yes” to this question.
