  QuickMap® were proud sponsors of the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Conference 2011 held in Wellington 21-25 November

A personal note from Murray Black, Managing Director of QuickMap;

QuickMap were sponsors of the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Conference 2011 where we had the opportunity to talk to over 600 delegates. Most Surveyors use QuickMap, so we knew virtually everyone had survived the downturn caused by the recession; but we also know the number of property transactions overall have dropped by over 40%, which has resulted in a lot less money flowing through the profession.

Surviving a downturn of this magnitude cannot be fluked, and I was keen to find out what our clients were doing to cope. The theme for the conference was Innovation and working smarter, and that is definitely what our clients  were doing. In a way, it reminded me of all those athletic looking joggers you see early in the morning. The joggers never look like they need to be out there jogging because they always look so fit, but that is only true because that is part of their habbit or routine. This conference was full of people already innovative and working smarter.

For me personally, I was most pleased to see the innovative way they use QuickMap. A lot were using some of the more advanced features of QuickMap, and most had added their own jobs layer. What was interesting was how useful a jobs layer could be. Viewing your clients on a map made it more obvious where your clients are NOT, and in some cases had triggered a change in how they marketed their services.

One thing that virtually every surveyor said was that QuickMap was essential for securing potential new clients when they rang on the phone. Having all the information at your fingertips such as air photos, boundaries, owner details, survey plans and other survey information meant it was possible to be instantly sympathetic to the person's needs. The person ringing got the feeling they had contacted the right company because you could demonstrate how much you knew about the job before you even started on it. And of course having your job layer in QuickMap made it possible to say things like "we did a job just down the road from you recently" where your memory is sometimes a little foggy.

Business through "Word of mouth" is essential, but when times are tough, you also need to grab every opportunity to secure a new client wherever you can. Those few minutes or even seconds of contact can make all the difference to how profitable your business is. I feel really happy we have been able to help.
