How to Copy Quickmap Update from One PC to Another

These instructions describe how to update Quickmap data on a PC by copying it from another PC.

For example, if you have a stand-alone PC or laptop with up-to-date Quickmap data stored on your local C:\ drive, and wish to copy that data onto your server for other users who are running Quickmap off the server.

Typically, your PC or laptop will have been updated using:

Quickmap Data Folder

The Quickmap data is stored in your Quickmap data folder (e.g., C:\Quickmap\Data). To find this:u

  1. Run Quickmap
  2. Select About Quickmap from the Help menu

The Quickmap data folder contains these sub-folders:

  • Legal: Base legal data from Quickmap Enterprise updates, including all layers under the Legal group (Address, Appellation, River, Owner, Parcel, Survey Plan, etc.)
  • Sales: Sales data included in the SalesView Expansion Pack, including all layers under the Sales group (Sales Nth, Sales Sth)
  • Survey: Survey data included in the SurveyView Expansion Pack, including all layers under the Survey group

To update another PC or server, you simply copy the applicable folder(s) to the other PC or server.

Detailed Instructions

These instructions use example locations:

  • Up-to-date Quickmap data: C:\Quickmap\Data
  • Destination PC/server: Q:\QuickmapData

1. Find the Quickmap Data Folder

  1. Run Quickmap
  2. Select About Quickmap from the Help menu
  3. Note the Data Folder location

These instructions work for both Version 7 and Version 8 Quickmap. Version 7 Quickmap Data is stored in C:\Qmap\Data

2. Close Quickmap on the Destination PC/Server

If applying the update to a shared network drive used by multiple users:

  1. Create the file Quickmap.LCK in the Quickmap data folder. The contents of the file do not matter; it simply signals Quickmap to close for all users.
  2. You can create Quickmap.LCK manually using Windows Explorer or download it from: Download Quickmap.LCK
  3. Paste Quickmap.LCK into the Quickmap data folder on the target PC/server.
  4. Wait about 1 minute for Quickmap to shut down for all users. LDB files such as Quickmap.ldb and Roads.ldb should disappear when Quickmap is fully closed.

3. Copy Quickmap Data to Your Server

  1. On the up-to-date PC/laptop, browse to the Quickmap data folder.
  2. Right-click the Legal folder and select Copy.
  3. On the server PC, browse to the Quickmap data folder, right-click, and select Paste.
  4. Click Yes when prompted to merge/overwrite the existing Legal folder.

Important: If not prompted to merge, you may be pasting into the wrong location (e.g., Legal\Legal).

  1. If you have the SalesView expansion pack, repeat the process for the Sales folder.
  2. If you have the SurveyView expansion pack, repeat for the Survey folder.

4. Delete the Quickmap.LCK File

  • After copying is complete, delete the Quickmap.LCK file created in Step 2.
  • This will allow users running Quickmap off the server to log back in.
